I was so excited to see the scarab ring ad I'm half Egyptian and have always loved the symbolism of the scarab. The shine of the labradorite stone coupled with the gold us simply stunning! Just be careful with the legs as they seem delicate and might bend if they get caught on things and pulled hard :)

I honestly couldn't be more pleased! My drippy septum ring is a dream come true- it fits snug enough to not be dangly and the drips are solid enough to not be fragile even though they look delicate. I haven't taken it off since I received it, which includes wearing it to bed. It's so comfortable, I don't even feel it. It is quick to turn a little but sideways and stay that way unless adjusted, but I've had many septum rings like this and it takes away nothing from the product. I'm in love!

Of course, both metals look different as well. Gold naturally has a yellow hue, whereas platinum tends to be silver and shiny. White gold is not naturally that color; instead, it is alloyed with something like silver or nickel and often coated in rhodium for a shinier finish (photo below, left). This finish needs replenishing every few years, but it is easy to do and often free at a good jeweler.

Platinum alloys are generally denser than gold alloys and thus tend to be more durable. However once gold gets to 14K, it tends to be harder than platinum and less easy to scratch. This means that platinum is preferred for intricate rings, like engagement rings that hold a stone, as its strength keeps the stone safe. However, gold is a better choice if you are worried about scratching your ring.

You may also wish to consider that there is much more labor involved in resizing a platinum ring, meaning you might spend more down the line if you wish to resize once you outgrow your wedding band. Resizing a platinum band costs between $100 and $300, while for a gold band you will be looking at $20 to $50.

What does this mean in terms of ring costs? A 6mm classic wedding band from Blue Nile made of Platinum (below, left) will set you back $742.50 and if you opt for the same ring in 14 karat gold (below, right), you will be paying $441. Use the metals that represents lasting value and lasting love. Get wedding bands you can pass on to your kids. I have sized so many rings from my client's parent's and grandparents. For students and young people with little money, these inherited jewelry gifts keep on giving as they can be sized and altered. The meaning that these rings give is sentimental and priceless. I know I'd want to give wedding rings to my heirs that could be sized and re-used.

"One other thought on the cons of tungsten carbide wedding bands. I have had my wedding band for 5 years now and got it because of the low price and that it is basically indestructible. The first issue was the fading of the shiny finish. I have not been able to find a process online or a jeweler that can bring it back. The second (and biggest) con is one that I seldom see noted or discussed. Since it is second only to a diamond in hardness, tungsten carbide can be very damaging. We bought new stainless kitchen appliances nine months ago. I have virtually destroyed the handles on both the microwave and the refrigerator. I guess I could get into the habit of opening everything with my right hand, but old habits die hard. While this ring has emotional value, I have no choice but to replace it with white gold and will be doing so soon. Oh well." Skip

Wow! What a useful article! As professional wedding videographers I have had the pleasure of filming countless wedding rings of all shapes and sizes. Personally, I feel there is nothing like a beautiful gold or platinum ring and this article just reinforced my feeling about that! Thank you for bringing us these incredible insights Calla! They are greatly appreciated!

I must be missing something. I have talked to twenty couples with over 400 years of marriage and mot one person has ever had to have a ring resized. Not one. As for being a your other point, the only reason gold is so valuable is because our culture has made it that way. If they had the tools to make tungsten rings a thousand years ago, they would be just as valuable today as gold.

To understand the qualities of gold, you must first understand the meaning of a karat. A karat is different than a carat. While a carat is the recognized standard for the weight of a diamond or gem, a karat is used to describe the purity of gold, according to Science Notes.

Although purchasing 10k gold helps your wallet, this type of gold could hurt your skin. The gold in 10k pieces is mixed and combined with other metals, which can often be responsible for allergic reactions. Allergic reactions can range from contact dermatitis to itchiness and blisters. Therefore, people with sensitive skin may want to avoid this type of gold.

According to jewelry tradition, 14k gold is the choice for timeless elegance. The 14k white gold option never seems to go out of style thanks to the complementary features next to a white diamond. The only downside is that you as the owner of a 14k gold piece need to be diligent with polishing and maintaining your jewelry.

An 18k piece of gold jewelry is 75% gold and contains only 25% other alloy or metals. Gold that is 18k is a good option for people who may want a 100% gold piece of jewelry but are conscious of their budget. People with extremely sensitive skin may prefer 18k to 10k or 14k because 18k gold is more hypoallergenic due to less mixed metals and alloys. One may find engagement rings, wedding bands, bracelets, earrings, or necklaces in 18k since 18k gold is efficient for daily use. For example, the chances that 18k prongs holding a diamond will loosen are extremely slim.

Yellow gold is said to look appealing on anyone, but especially those with olive or darker skin tones. Being the purest, yellow gold is easy for jewelers to manipulate. This type of gold can also be easily resized in the future.

White gold is less susceptible to scratching and denting, but it requires polishing and has the potential need to be dipped every few years to retain its luster and color. According to some sources such as the Diamond Pro, white gold best complements any diamonds near it.

People have many reasons for choosing to sell their gold pieces. Sometimes their gold pieces no longer hold any value to them or they may want to sell their gold for cash. Regardless, when it comes to selling, be informed about the best way to sell your gold.

When you compare the price of gold to that of other metals, gold is continually increasing in value. Selling gold has many benefits. Investors specifically like buying gold because gold can readily be converted to cash and does not carry the same level of investing risk as stocks or bonds.

Appraisals of gold are a little different than appraisals of gems or diamonds. With gold appraisals, weight and purity of the gold play an important role. An appraiser will evaluate your gold based on karats, metal composition, and weight. If you have any documentation that accompanies your pieces of gold (for example, a receipt or certificate of authenticity), take this documentation with you to the appraisal to give your appraiser as much background information as possible.

Additionally, gold has been a great defender against inflation. During years of high inflation, stock markets took a dive while the value of gold increased. During times of deflation, having gold was considered a positive for people who may not turn to banks, investments, and stocks. One way to protect your assets is to have your assets be in a tangible form, such as gold. You can also keep your gold assets private. Even though you must still report any gain on your yearly taxes, gold is one of the only assets that can be anonymous.

Further, buying and investing in gold is not something that you need significant amount of educational experience to be able to do. Professionals can provide you with a great deal of information and can help answer any questions that you may have.

A common type of commodity investing is when you purchase physical raw commodities and plan to sell them later. Different types of investment commodities include metals, energy, livestock and meat, and agriculture. When investing in commodities, you should plan for different variables such as economic developments and innovations. For instance, when investing in gold, you should pay attention to current currency rates and trends.

One thing to keep in mind is that commodities can be risky investments since their prices fluctuate. When you sell your gold at the right time, you may get a nice return. Another benefit is that you can easily hold onto gold until it becomes more valuable.

When considering investing in diamonds or gold, there is no simple answer to which option is better. It truly depends on your personal preferences and financial background. When investing in diamonds, consider the following factors: 041b061a72
